Hon. Dweynie Paul

Dweynie Paul graduated from SUNY Stony Brook in 1999 with a bachelor’s degree in political and social Science and a minor in child and family studies.  She went on to obtain her master’s in public policy from Stony Brook University and worked for the Deputy Comptroller’s office under Carl McCall.  During her time there, she studied immigration-related issues, with a focus on immigrant’s ability to gain access to essential resources, such as education, employment and healthcare and their impact on New York’s economy.

In 2000, she entered George Washington University Law School where she represented the school as a member of the law school’s trial advocacy team and obtained a Juris Doctor degree.  In 2004, she was admitted to practice law in both New York and New Jersey.  After graduating, Ms. Paul served as a law clerk to Maryland Circuit Court Judge Marcella Holland, presiding over family, criminal and civil court matters.    

Ms. Paul is a seasoned civil litigator with over nine years of trial experience.  She is currently In-House Counsel for Travelers Indemnity Company, where she manages a caseload involving premise liability, personal injury and construction cases.

She is passionate about serving her community in New York and in Haiti.  As vice president of a non-profit organization called Eye of a Dream, she works to raise scholarship funds for children to attend private school in Haiti.  She is a member of Community Board #3, which covers the Bedford-Stuyvesant area of Brooklyn.   As director of community service and public affairs for the Metropolitan Black Bar Association, she develops programs that utilize the talents of its members to be a resource and a contribution to the community.
