As Haitians, We Are The Keepers Of Our Legacy
Haitian born actor, Jimmy Jean-Louis, is a rags to riches’ story of a child who grew up in the slums of Port AuPrince, Haiti until age 12, becomes a Hollywood actor, and shifts his focus from his acting career to help rebuild his homeland ravaged by the 7.0 earthquake on January 12th, 2010. Three days after the devastating 7.0 earthquake, Jimmy went to Haiti to search for his parents, they had survived but he learned that a house he had grown up in collapsed, killing several of his relatives.
Jimmy Jean-Louis is the founder and President of Hollywood Unites for Haiti a non-profit (501c3) established in 2008, whose mission is to provide sports and cultural education to underprivileged youth on the island. In response to the’disaster and to provide immediate relief to the victims of the earthquake HUFH joined forces with Pan American Development Foundation and Organization of American States. HUFH-PADF-OAS and its partners provided support to more than 300,000 people, and delivered in excess of 200 tons of supplies during the first eight weeks of the disaster. Jimmy Jean-Louis was named PADFs ambassador for Haitian Children, he testified to Congress on their behalf.
Recently, Mr. Jean-Louis has taken part in a series of campaigns for Haitian aid, he was an invited singer on the Quincy Jones project “We Are The World” to benefit humanitarian relief efforts in Haiti, be “as also invited to the telethon organized by George Clooney. Jimmy Jean-Louis has become the face of Haitian pride and hope. During Haitian Independence Month, January 2010, Jimmy was presented with the key of Miami- Dade County.
Mr. Jean-Louis is fluent in five languages: English, French, Spanish, Italian, and Creole. Jimmy is married to his wife, Evelyn, and they have 2 children. He enjoys watching and playing soccer and is a member of an amateur soccer club Hollywood United F.C., a team comprised mostly of celebrities and former professionals. Jimmy currently resides in Los Angeles, California.
