Michaelle Solages

Michaelle Solages is the first Haitian-American elected to the New York State Assembly. As a lifelong resident of Elmont, New York, the daughter of Haitian immigrants realized at an early age the value of hard work and the importance of dedicating one’s time to making positive changes in the community.

Michaelle earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Hofstra University’s School of Education, Health and Human Services, where she specialized in Athletic Training. In her professional career, Michaelle continues to work to improve her community. Currently, Michaelle serves as a supervisor at Hofstra University’s Axinn Library where she is a proud member of the Office and Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU) Local 153. Michaelle has also worked for a local newspaper as a photojournalist. In that capacity, she has been able to keep her finger on the pulse of her community. For the last several years, Michaelle has placed herself in the front lines in addressing community concerns. Michaelle has volunteered as a legislative aide at the Nassau County Legislature. Michaelle has also served as a community organizer for local civic and volunteer organizations.

On September 13, 2012, Michaelle won the Democratic and Working Families Primaries for the 22nd Assembly District. On September 13, Michaelle received over 82 percent of the vote in the Democratic Primary and 60 percent of the Vote in the Working Families Primary. The 22nd Assembly District includes Elmont, North Valley Stream, Valley Stream, South Valley Stream, South Floral Park, Bellerose, North Woodmere, Stewart Manor, and parts of Franklin Square and Floral Park.

One of Michaelle’s top priorities is fighting for Nassau County’s middle class. Michaelle believes that a livable wage, affordable housing, and the right to organize must be protected. Michaelle also seeks to be a voice for victim rights, affordable healthcare, and protection against unfair banking practices.
