Writer and academic Roxanne Gay has made quite a splash in recent years with highly acclaimed
books and thoughtful articles frequently published in the New York Times. Gay, born of Haitian parents
in Nebraska, earned a doctorate at Michigan Technical University and teaches English at Purdue
University. She has published several books including a short-story collection “Ayiti”, and a novel “The
Untamed State.” The Haitian Roundtable 1804 List inductee delivered a Ted Talk at the exclusive
conference last May that explained the title of her popular collection of essays, “Bad Feminist.” In the
talk, she explains that the title came out of her conviction she could not be a perfect feminist. Watch it.
