Haitian Roundtable Members Receive Recognition

Members of the Haitian Roundtable continue to make their mark on America. For example, the Haitian Roundtable was an honoree at Radio Soleil’s 20th members of HRT were recognized by the Haitian Times on its list of 13 Haitians To Watch in 2013.

Here are some other highlights of recent achievements by HRT members.

New York City Department of Correction Commissioner Joe Ponte appointed Haitian-American and HRT Board Member Dina Simon to the post of Deputy Commissioner for Human Resources.

April 8, 2014

Former Haitian Roundtable Board Member Jacques Jiha was named New York City Commissioner of Finance by Mayor Bill de Blasio. The Haitian-American Jiha is a former COO and CFO at Black Enterprise.

January 16, 2014

New York City Mayor de Blasio appointed Rosemonde Pierre-Louis as Commissioner of the Mayor’s Office to Combat Domestic Violence. She is the first Haitian-American to be named a New York City commissioner. Ms. Pierre-Louis is co-founder and chairperson of the Haitian Roundtable.

September 23, 2013

Architect and HRT Board member Rodney Leon was declared the winner of an international competition to design a memorial to honor victims of slavery and the transatlantic slave trade that will be on permanent display on the grounds of the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
